The
top-seeded University of Florida gymnastics team is in the opening session of
NCAA Championships’ semifinal competition on Friday, April 19 at 3 p.m. (ET).
Semifinal I contains three of the five Southeastern Conference teams which
advanced to the 2013 NCAA Championships – Florida, Georgia and LSU– along with
Illinois, Minnesota and Stanford.
Semifinal
II (which begins at 9 p.m. ET) consists of two-time defending NCAA champion
Alabama, Arkansas, UCLA, Michigan, Oklahoma and Utah. The
NCAA Championships are set for April 19-21 at the New Pauley Pavilion in Los
Angeles, Calif.
The
National Qualifying Score (NQS) determined the semifinal assignments of the
NCAA Championships' team competition. The NQS ranks teams 1-12 by adding a
team's regional qualifying score (RQS) and score from regional competition.
Teams 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 12 were placed in Friday’s Semifinal I and teams 2, 3,
6, 7, 10 and 11 placed in Semifinal II. Florida is the No. 1 seed for the third
time in the program’s history after winning the NCAA Gainesville Regional last
Saturday with the nation’s top total (198.40) in regional competition.
The top three teams in each of Friday’s
sessions will advance to the NCAA Super Six on Saturday, April 20 at 7 p.m.
(ET), where the national team champion is determined. ESPN3
will show the NCAA Super Six live and the meet will air tape-delayed on ESPNU April
30 at 8 p.m. ET.
Florida was second in 2012 NCAA
Championships’ Super Six competition in the tightest meet ever between the top
three finishers – Alabama (197.85), Florida (197.775) and UCLA (197.75).
