Florida in Fourth After Two Rounds at the Gary Koch Invitational

The eighth ranked University of Florida men’s golf team is in fourth place at the Gary Koch Invitational after the first day of competition at the Old Memorial Golf Club. As a team, the Gators recorded a 573 (-3) for the first two rounds of play.

After an opening round 293 (+5), Florida recorded a 280 (-8) for the second round of play. It marked the team’s best round of the 2012-13 season.

“We had a really disappointing morning round,” head coach Buddy Alexander stated. “We shot eight-under in the afternoon. It was our best round in a while, maybe even our best round this year.”

Freshman A.J. Crouch (Jacksonville, Fla.) was the team’s lowest scorer through two rounds of play. The rookie recorded an opening round 72 (E) and followed it up with a second round-70 (-2). His second round score matches his best round at the University of Florida. Crouch is tied for 13th place headed into tomorrow’s final round.

Senior Tommy Mou (Bradenton, Fla.) tallied two consecutive even-par rounds at the par-72, 7,389 yard course and is in a tie for 20th place.

Sophomores Eric Banks (Truro, Canada) and J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.) are tied with two other golfers for 25th place after posting scores of 145 (+1) for Monday’s two rounds. Banks rebounded from an opening round 75 (+3) with a 70 (-2) for the second round. Tomlinson came back from a first round 74 (+2) with a one-under par round in the afternoon.

Senior Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) continued the trend and showed improvement in the latter round. After shooting a 77 (+5) in the morning, McCumber recorded a 69 (-3) for the second round of play. It was his second-lowest score of the year.

Playing as an individual, junior Bill Anderson (DeLand, Fla.) is four-over par for the tournament. Anderson opened the Gary Koch Invitational with a 71 (-1), matching his best round as a Gator. It was his lowest round relative to par in his collegiate career.

“The Old Memorial Golf Club is a terrific course.” Alexander commented. “It was not very hard today and we were able to do a little better in the afternoon.”
