Florida coach Will Muschamp and his team have watched plenty of film on Georgia this week.
They've also been looking at something else.
“We've tracked the storm,” Muschamp said on his radio show Thursday.
Hurricane Sandy will be passing by Jacksonville this weekend just off Florida's east coast, and winds are projected to be 25 to 35 mph NNW according to The Weather Channel. As of Friday, there's a 30-percent chance of rain.
“We don't think there's going to be any rain, but there will be some wind,” Muschamp said. “The bottom line is, there will be wind for both teams.”
Muschamp said his players are prepared for any weather conditions they may face at EverBank Field and his staff will adjust the game plan accordingly.
Muschamp is no stranger to rain and wind in the Florida-Georgia rivalry. As a player for the Bulldogs from 1991-1994, he experienced two games that were affected by Mother Nature.
Muschamp played in “The Timeout Game” in 1993, which had constant rain all afternoon. Trailing the Gators 33-26, Georgia quarterback Eric Zeier threw a game-tying touchdown pass with five seconds left in regulation.
However, UF defensive back Anthone Lott had called a timeout just before the ball was snapped and UGA was forced to replay the down. Lott was flagged for pass interference on the ensuing play and gave Georgia one last untimed down, but Zeier's pass fell incomplete and Florida took home a controversial win.
“Me and (athletic director) Jeremy Foley were talking about it the other day,” said Muschamp, who registered six tackles in the 1993 game. “The water was cascading off the bleachers. In 1991, it was about 30 degrees and the wind was coming off the St. Johns River. So I've seen some bad weather there before.”
