Florida has been lucky in terms of its standing in the Associated Press poll until now.
In the past few weeks, the Gators have not dropped far despite their losses because other ranked teams also lost. But their slump, losing five of their past eight, finally sunk them to a season-worst No. 22 in the AP poll.
Florida also fell from No. 13 to No. 19 in the USA Today coaches’ poll.
The Gators began the season No. 9 in the AP poll and climbed as high as No. 7 in November. After dropping to No. 19 in early January, they rebounded to No. 8 at the beginning of February.
Florida finished the regular season 22-9, including 10-6 in the SEC. It opens the SEC Tournament in New Orleans on Friday against either Alabama or South Carolina (SEC Network, 3:30 p.m.).
