Florida football fans in a fervor wondering who the next offensive coordinator will be can calm down for now.
That hire and the hiring of a new strength and conditioning coach
will not happen until after the Jan. 2 bowl game, The Sun learned
Saturday.Florida coach Will Muschamp is contacting potential candidates and is expected to talk to 20-to-30 people for each job, according to a source. He will then meet with five or six of them before deciding who his new coaches will be.
Florida is looking for a new offensive coordinator after Charlie Weis took the head coaching job at Kansas on Thursday after one season on the job at Florida. Mickey Marotti, Florida's strength and conditioning coach for seven seasons, also left to join Urban Meyer at Ohio State.
Florida is preparing for the Gator Bowl where it will face Ohio State, but while the game is being called "The Urban Bowl," Meyer won't be attending the game in Jacksonville.
Meyer said in a text message to The Sun after he was asked how much time he would spend in Jacksonville for Gator Bowl week, "I'm not going to the game. Don't want to interfere with Luke (Fickell)."
Fickell has served as interim coach and will join Meyer's staff.
