Gators shuffle their offensive line

With offensive tackles Xavier Nixon (knee) and Matt Patchan (wrist) both out for the opener, Florida coach Urban Meyer said senior Marcus Gilbert would move from right tackle to left tackle this Saturday.

There was some talk about Mike Pouncey possibly moving out to tackle from center, but Meyer wanted to keep Pouncey at center, particularly with John Brantley making his first start at quarterback.

The Gators will have four senior starters in their offensive line in the opener. Maurice Hurt will move into the starting lineup at right tackle. Carl Johnson will stay at left guard, and the only non-senior starting will be junior James Wilson at right guard.

In other injury news, Meyer said defensive tackle Terron Sanders probably won't play this weekend because of a sprained knee. Redshirt freshman tight end Jordan Reed is questionable with a knee bruise.

And in personnel moves, Meyer said redshirt freshman Andre Debose has moved from the inside slot position to the outside receiver position behind Deonte Thompson. The Gators have been pleased with what they've gotten out of Chris Rainey in the slot position this preseason.

The Gators also released their depth chart Monday, and as many as 16 true freshmen have a chance to play this season. Safety Matt Elam is the likely starter at the nickel position when Florida goes to five defensive backs.
