Gators Slide to No. 2 in ITA Team Rankings

After sitting atop the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Rankings for the first three listings, the Florida women’s tennis team slid to No. 2 in this week’s poll that was released on Tuesday.

The ITA Team Rankings will be released every Tuesday afternoon for the remainder of the season, while the individual national singles and doubles rankings will be released every-other week beginning February 12.

In the second ITA National Singles Rankings, also released on Tuesday, five Gators were listed, as was one doubles team.

Senior Lauren Embree headlines the Gators in the national singles rankings, earning the No. 4 spot and tying her career-high in the collegiate ranking systems. Embree also was ranked fourth in the 2010 Fall rankings entering her sophomore year.

Sofie Oyen is No. 9, while Danielle Collins is No. 44, Alexandra Cercone is No. 116 and Caroline Hitimana is No. 121.

On the doubles court, the Florida pair of Collins and Embree checked in at No. 54.

The second-ranked Gators (3-0) return to action on Sunday, when the team takes on fourth-ranked Duke in Durham, before battling top-ranked North Carolina on Monday afternoon.
