At least three Florida players missed time during Saturday’s 41-3 win over Florida Atlantic due to injuries, but coach Will Muschamp did not know how serious the issues were immediately after the game.
– TE/FB Trey Burton left in the first quarter with an apparent injury to his left hip. He returned later in the game, but was limited.
– DT Dominique Easley had to be helped off the field by trainers in the third quarter with what looked like an injured left leg or foot.
– WR Deonte Thompson took a scary helmet-to-helmet hit from FAU’s D.J. Frye-Smithearly in the fourth quarter.
Thompson’s injury seemed to be the most serious of the three, and obviously Florida will be concerned about the possibility of a concussion.
“I don’t want to comment on any of that at this point,” Muschamp said of the three aforementioned players. “We’ll certainly know more on the injuries (Sunday) morning, so it’s not fair for me to comment right now.”
He did say that Burton was held out as a precaution.
As for players who were injured prior to the game, CB Jeremy Brown (knee), TE/WR Omarius Hines (hamstring) and WR Robert Clark (hamstring) did not dress. Clark’s injury was not known made public before Saturday.
LB Dee Finley (shoulder) dressed and played. He was flagged for a holding penalty on the opening kickoff, which would have been an 88-yard touchdown by Jeff Demps.
Muschamp said Brown was full speed in Thursday’s practice, “but we were worried about his lateral change of direction.” He will be reevaluated Sunday.
He said Clark and Hines will be “probable to questionable” for the upcoming game against Alabama-Birmingham.
