Florida leading scorer Kenny Boynton has announced he’ll be back for his senior basketball season.
The 6-foot-2 Boynton averaged a team-high 15.9 points per game last season and scored 20 or more points in 13 games.
Boynton,
a former McDonald’s All-American from Pompano Beach, is eighth on UF’s
all-time scoring list with 1,589 points. With another season, Boynton
has a chance to break Ronnie Williams’ school scoring record of 2,090
points. Former Florida guard Vernon Maxwell scored more points but had
the final two years of his career struck from the record books due to
NCAA sanctions.
Boynton also has made 260 career 3-pointers, 28 shy of Lee Humphrey’s school record (288).
Boynton’s
decision means Florida will have at least three starters back from a
team that finished 26-11 and reached the Elite Eight. Florida freshman
swingman Bradley Beal has yet to decide whether to return to school or
declare for the NBA Draft. The college deadline to declare is April 10,
but a source close to Beal said he could wait until the NBA deadline of
April 29 before making a decision.
